Our UX Process

We have developed a process that takes the guess work out of strategic web design. We work with our clients through each step, resulting in a fully developed site that will make you proud. Below, we outline each step and give examples of the resulting deliverables that we create for you.

1. STAKEHOLDER INTERVIEW

Every project begins with an interview where we meet everyone involved and discuss their goals for the project. We explain our process and review the scope of the project.

2. Competitive Analysis Workshop

We always run a workshop with our clients where we examine their competitors in a virtual meeting space, sharing screens and observations as we dive deep into their websites. The workshop results in a mutual, high-level understanding of where our clients need to be positioned in the competitive landscape. Depending on the scope of the project, we may provide a detailed report of our findings.

3. Supplemental UX Research Deliverables

Our UX research processes differ from project to project based on the needs of the client, budget, and timeline. Below are some common methods that we might utilize.

User Personas

It’s important for us thoroughly understand the user of your website so that we can deliver the best solutions for them. To do this, we research your users and compile a generic profile that we can refer to throughout the project.

Surveys and interviews

Collecting feedback and user data via questionnaire or directly interviewing them are very effective methods to better understand users goals and frustrations. These methods reveal specific issues that can make a big difference in the end product.

User Flow Diagram

Sometimes, it’s a useful to our UX research to examine how users move through a complicated site to achieve their goals. In these cases, we create a chart called a User Flow Diagram to help us visualize the steps a user takes and the choices they make on their journey toward their goal.

4. Sitemap Workshop

Sitemaps show the hierarchy of all the main pages in the site. The sitemap serves as the foundation for discussions about the site’s organization, new pages or content, and overall project scope. Using data collected from the previous steps, we work with the client to compile a complete sitemap diagram that aligns the business goals with the users needs.

5. Content Planning and Strategy Workshop

We work with the client to create a solid content strategy based on all the previous research. We compile a high-level outline of all the content into one document so that the client can easily see everything that we will include in the site.

6. Wireframes

Using the outputs from the previous steps, we create a set of wireframe sketches that show the approximate layout for each new page on the site. These are what we call “low-fidelity” mockups.

7. Mockups

Using the approved wireframes as our guide, we use a design program to create polished mockups of the pages on the site including the mobile experience. We present options showing various color palettes, fonts and graphic treatments.

 Development Phase

Using all the outputs from the Discovery and Blueprint phases, we move into the technical side of creating a website—we call this the Development phase. This includes coding and implementing all the features, styles, and content into a fully functional website.
